#MyHappyTummyOkay so, honestly, there were many attempts to write my first food/restaurant review but due to circumstances (a. I forgot to take photos of the food, b. My phone got lost) it got delayed, and delayed, and delayed. So finally, after 1028182 attempts! Here's my first food review! (Yaaaay) Kai has always been on my list of Japanese restaurants to try because I've heard and read so many good reviews about it. It specializes in Contemporary and Fusion Japanese cuisine. The place gives off an expensive feel but if you check their menu, they have reasonable prices. Kai is located in Greenbelt 5, right beside the Chapel. Sadly, I forgot to take a photo of the place but I love the ambiance, very sophisticated and quiet. Somehow, it also gives you a sense of privacy like you have enough space to not bother the next table. Let me share with you my thoughts on the food we ordered in Kai: We ordered this last and it did not disappoint. I was expecting an ordinary looking tempura with just the additional blah but I didn't know I was in for a treat. It was delicious, the kind that pops in your mouth. The bite size tempura was coated with a mild spicy aioli (Mediterranean sauce made of garlic and olive oil) and yuzu (citrus food) sauce that made it really yummy. It also had Shitake mushroom and Chinese cabbage which I enjoyed altogether. You SHOULD try this if ever you dine in Kai. There were other interesting choices in menu but since I don't eat raw meat, we had this. It's one of their best-sellers. It has carrots, Chinese cabbage, tamago (egg), avocado and a crunchy unagi (eel). You'll like it from the first bite. So imagine a pork belly after 10 hours... Wow right? There are a number of positive reviews on this dish, and they were right. It was very soft, juicy and it has a rich taste - like sweet and smokey at the same time. I loved the "fats" part more than the meat. HE HE. It also comes with rice, which was crispy on the outside and soft inside. Their dessert is on a separate menu, so you have to ask for it. Aside from their famous smores, they also have this uh-ma-zing dish, which I recommend the first time you're in Kai (try the others when you come back lol). This is Kai's version of crepe or banana split. The banana is wrapped with a sesame fillo (which reminds me so much of Buchi) topped with chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and mocha ice cream with caramel syrup. You'll love the combination of a crunchy wrapper and cold ice cream. Over-all verdictThe ambiance was perfect, it's the kind of place that gives you comfort and you won't notice that you've been talking and eating for hours already. I would have stayed for few more hours but I had reservation for Civil War. The servers were attentive but not to the point of being too nosy. The food was great! Plus they have extensive Japanese dishes on the menu. I would love to try their Nigiri and Hot dishes especially the Ishiyaki (Hot stone cooking). I would definitely come back for more! Place ★★★★☆ Taste ★★★★☆ Service ★★★★☆ Value for Money ★★★☆ ☆ Budget: P 600 - 800 per person for a three-course meal. (Includes +VAT and Service charge) PS.
