RILEY and GARETTPERFECT REGRET Bad Rep Series #2 Author: A Meredith Walters Genre/s: Contemporary Romance, New Adult RATING Characters: 3/5 Story: 3/5 Writing Style: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 The second story in the point-of-view of Riley, Maysie’s best friend slash roommate about her life and her relationship with Garett, guitarist of Generation Rejects who is also a dear friend of Jordan. They were the exact opposite of each other, Riley was the kind of girl who intimidates guys because she was an academic over-achiever and would always have smart remarks about everything while Garett was famous for his after-party, he doesn’t go to college and he doesn’t care so much for his physical appearance but he was oozing of charisma and sex appeal Looking at him standing in front of me, I couldn’t see past the blood shot eyes, messy shirt, and torn jeans. And I didn’t want to either. Garrett was who he was and I knew without a doubt that we were never destined to mix. WARNING SPOILER!!! ”I used sarcasm like a shield. Because God forbid anyone see that I was vulnerable under all this bitch. Riley was still heartbroken for breaking up with Damien when that one night happened, Riley knew that it was a start of the changes in her life and she was trying to convince herself that she’s not attracted to Garett. They kept meeting up in Riley’s internship work place, the bar and parties since they basically run in the same circle of friends. The more their awkwardness disappears, the more Garett reveals his feeling for Riley and the more Riley denies. Whenever they get a chance to be in each other’s arms and sort their relationship, Riley made excuses for herself that she is not interested with Garett and it won’t work out between them. One night before the second set of Generation Rejects, Riley received a bad news that her father is currently in the ICU. Without hesitation, Garett offered to drive Riley to her hometown, at first Riley thought she can handle it but she knew that she needed someone to lean onto. Garett drove more than 4 hours to be able to reach Riley’s house in the morning. Riley’s mom met Garett and she insisted that he should sleep first and just leave when he’s well-rested. Riley stayed in the hospital but she needed to rest after the long drive, she went back to the house and saw Garett preparing to leave. Riley asked him to stay and sleep beside her, he did and when she woke up, there wasn’t any phone call or text message about her father. They started talking about their lives which lead to making love. They both wanted each other this time but at the back Riley’s mind, she was still scared and there were a lot of reasons why they won’t work running in her mind. Minutes after, Riley’s father died. This made Riley depressed and furious with what happened - while his father was dying in the hospital, she was making love with Garett. She asked Garett to leave and said hurtful words to him. She stayed in her hometown for a couple of weeks after that. “Have a life that matters. A life with purpose. Find your own way but don’t lose sight of the journey.” From their circle of friends, they were never open about what happened. Garett became close with Gracie, he was with her most of the time. When what happened between Garett and Riley, Gracie was really hurt by what happened, but Garett stayed close to Gracie after that. After Riley realized that she really wanted to be with Garett, the confrontation happened, Garett explained that Gracie was having alcohol addiction and he was helping her. Gracie was sent to the hospital that night because she stopped breathing due to the alcohol complications in her system. Riley felt devastated and guilty, she didn’t visit Gracie and she was blaming herself for what happened to Gracie. During those times, Garett talked to Gracie about them, where they left off and what they want to happen in their relationship. Things started going smoothly from there, Riley visited Gracie and spent some time with her while she was recovering. “I just wanted you, to just once, look at me as the guy who would give you the world. And for that to be enough.” The ending was sweet, it was very touching how they both wanted the relationship work and tried to get through their fears together. At first, I understand how Riley was afraid of Garett, she had set too many standards in her life, she had laid out her plans and meeting someone like Garett wasn’t part of it. While Riley goes to graduate school, Garett tours with the Generation Rejects around different states as they become more popular. Meredith was able to establish from the first book the character of Riley, she’s the type of girl who could be voted as “Most likely to succeed” in the yearbook while Garett was once a lost sheep found a meaning to Riley, he fixed his life because of Riley. No matter how bad-ass Garett looks on stage, he’s a sweet shy guy. Our differences challenge us to make it work with that special someone, at first, we may see it a burden and nearly impossible, but then at the end of the day, there’s nothing love cannot do. Another sexy book from the Bad Rep Series coming right up!! xoxo, M
