One of the highlights of my birthday this year was my birthday dinner at Nikkei. There were many previous attempts to eat in Nikkei but it would always be cancelled last minute. Good thing, it finally pushed through! Hehe. Nikkei is located at Unit G03 Frabelle Business Center, beside Wildflour in Rada, Legaspi Village. From Greenbelt 1, it’s a short 5-10 min walk. It’s a small quaint Japanese restaurant that you won’t miss. I didn’t have a photo of the place (agaaiin) but I like the ambiance and the lighting of the place. It’s not too bright or dark but well-lit enough for a cozy atmosphere. We didn’t have reservations since we went there on a Tuesday, but it was already a full house by the time we left. It is highly recommended to call for reservation for dinner (especially during Fridays) ☺ So moving on to the best part, the fooooood! There have been a lot of good reviews online and it didn’t disappoint. The waiter was smiling when we were ordering probably because I had a list on my phone on what to order. Hahaha! (Tip: whenever you go to a new restaurant or would like to try something new, read blogs and reviews online. It would really help!) First, we had the famous CAUSA appetizer in Tako and Salmon. I love the Tako!!! It was easy to chew and the taste blended well with the potato. They also have Ebi and Fish. Over all, it was a good dish – imagine mashed potato with Japanese toppings, Ikr! YUMM. I will have to come back and try Ebi and Fish next time. For the Sushi Rolls, we tried GRILLED EBI. I have one requirement to any Japanese dish I try – no raw meat. Okay okay I know, I’m missing the feels of a Japanese dish but really, I can’t. (Okay. I could. When it calls for the situation like when I had to eat sashimi at Ginzadon, Maxims Hotel for a lunch with Japanese investors. It was a really expensive set of first-class sashimi but I was not able to appreciate other than trying not to puke during the lunch meeting :( ) Going back to the Grilled Ebi, it was so delicious that we had to order another one!! The cream cheese complemented well with the prawn and mango. The cheese was really perfect with the set. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT!!! Our main dish was LOMO SALTADO which was highly recommended by food bloggers. The beef was super soft and the herbs balanced the taste well – it was sweet and salty at the same time. It could be even perfect if paired with rice. Hehe. Plus the fries and poached egg on the side was yum!! They have interesting Japanese-infused drinks, we ordered SAKE SANGRIA. It was the first one that caught my attention while reading the bar menu (plus it was 20% off as a part of their happy hour – anniversary promo that time). My oh myyy, it was super perfect. I fell in love with it on the first sip. It was very strong (very alcoholic, idk which Sake brand they used) but the way it was mixed was flawless, precise and tastes divine. Uh huh. Happy tummy = happy birthday. Hahaha! I am looking forward to trying their other dishes. Nikkei is in between comfort food and fancy feels with a good value for money. My perfect night would be delicious food over good conversation, and my birthday dinner was more than perfect. Place ★★★☆☆ (There was no wash room in the restaurant, we have to go to a building nearby and the washroom there was dirty huhu) Taste ★★★★☆ Service ★★☆☆☆ (We had to follow-up our order only to know that our waiter forgot about it and he was not able to include it in queueing) Value for Money ★★★★ ☆ Budget: P 800-900 per person for a three-course meal and drinks. (Excluding +VAT and Service charge) xoxo, M
