Express VPNYou might have heard that most of the social media apps are blocked in China which means that you have to download a VPN app or Virtual Private Network app to be able to use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Make sure you download it before you land in China because you can no longer download or activate it if you do it in China. Among all the VPNs I tried, this one is the easiest - you just have to click the power button to connect. Metro Shanghai SubwayWe would have not survived if not for this one - I highly recommend it among all Shanghai Metro apps. My favorite part is that it has 4 functions - Search, Metro, Stations and Maps. In 'Search' function, you can input your subway station and to where you are going, you also can add the time "Now" or the future date and time. Once you do, it will give you options - Best Route or Fewer Transfers. You can also see the Line, Fare, Km and Time, so if you're in a hurry it will help so much to know which route is the fastest or if you're tired you can take the route with less transfer. For the 'Metro', it shows you the whole subway system of Shanghai so you can identify the line colors and subway stops. Did you know that the Shanghai Metro is the longest metro in the world - and again, very efficient too! The 'Stations' shows all the stations of Shanghai Metro, if you click one station it will have the list of Exits, Facilities or Connecting lines, Floor Map, Timetable and Nearby Dining, Hotel, Cinema and Scenic. The last feature of the app is the 'Map' which is literally a map with the metro stations. Google TranslateIn Shanghai, people don't usually speak English and most of the signs (and menus from the restaurant) don't have English translation. Google Translate is very helpful in translating (though sometimes confusing) it. It also helped in communicating with them especially when asking direction or looking for a specific place. Google MapsI have a love-hate relationship with Google Maps. Often times, it's very confusing and it would point us to a different location. There was one time where we spend around 30 minutes following it and we ended up in a different place or more likely - got lost :)) But nonetheless, it is still helpful in identifying our location and where we are headed to. Shanghai Disneyland ResortOne of the perks of Shanghai Disneyland App is the fast pass, you can choose your fast pass without any additional costs! Unlike with other theme parks where you have to purchase it. For this one, you just need to click the specific ride and time so you can get it. It would also inform you on the waiting time for the rides, attractions and the show times. It's also easy to search and look for specific attraction or restaurants that you would like to try. KlookI have been using Klook for the past 3 years. First, they offer discounted attractions, tours and activities. Second, it's very easy to use. You just have to show the confirmed booking and scan the code. Third, it has a lot of cities and activities to choose from - Disneyland, bike tours, cooking classes to airport transfers and 4G sim cards. If you want hassle-free bookings, this is the one for you. They have good local partners at every cities. Over all, these are basic apps that you need to have if you're planning to visit Shanghai. xoxo, M
